Colorado

Colorado is a place of grandness.  Steamboat Springs is at the pinnacle of that grandness.  The beauty and majesty of the place can best be witnessed from the summit of Sleeping Giant.  My first week living out there i knew i had to sit atop the beast.  So, after work one afternoon i took to the dirt road and found my way to the back side of the mountain.

I noticed a sign on the fence, but coming from Wisconsin, and not seeing the words “No Trespassing” i quickly jumped the fence and started up.  It got steeper and steeper; i crossed a couple trails, but just kept trudging straight up.  Before i knew it, my mid-western lungs burned and i sat down.  Looking west upon the fields i would later chase elk through and i first witnessed the grand beauty of the land.  After a good rest, i again pulled my way up.  At the ridge, i ran north, elk were everywhere, mule deer bounced through the aspen groves, and i finally gained the summit.

There i sat and looked down upon the town i would call home for the remainder of 2007.  The sun was in the western sky, and as i sat on the rock cairn, i knew it would be an amazingly awesome year.  Below me i watched the trucks and river meander through the ranch i would want to call my own, and because of the guys i worked with and for, i will always feel at home in that country.

So, thanks Jeff, Rick, Steve, and Chad, you guys made that summer/fall pretty enjoyable.
