I spent the first minutes of 2010 listening to the celebrations over the radio as i drove 100km/hr down the wrong side of the road in New Zealand. I went on to spend the remainder of January on the North and South islands camping, driving, exploring, and searching for the famed New Zealand Brown Trout. I was accompanied, during the last week of January and first week of February, by brother Chris as we explored the farthest reaches of the North Island and eastern coast of Australia.
I returned home to spend the remaining months of winter sawing timber and building the base courses for brother Ray’s house.
Spring arrived and i continued pushing on Ray’s house. We built a beautiful bridge for a couple on Madeline Island, and started a two-year lodge on a local lake.
I was offered a position as head guide on the Zhupanova River and for The Kamchatka Steelhead Program from July through mid-October, but needed to turn down the opportunity.
I will spend the remainder of the summer in Wisconsin, finishing Ray’s house, building the lodge, working on my Russian reading, and preparing for my return to Kamchatka in the summer of 2011.
