Motatapu River

14 01 2010

Just outside of Wanaka, nestled between sheep and cow fields is the Motatapu River, a small creek, but beautiful.  I fished it yesterday for two hours.  I saw two trout, both around 24 inches.  It was a decent river to fish, lots of deep holes, a couple good rifles, but for the most part, no fish.  But, the two i saw, one gave me the New Zealand Wave, and the other was convinced to eat.  He was a beautiful 24″ rainbow, bright silver, nice red stripe, two aerials while on the line, and a good little fighter.

Other than that, i found a dead cow in the river, and a dead sheep along the shore… guess thats where this river gets a lot of its nutrients, as the waters were crystal clear and few to no bugs.

Lastly, the camper-vans around here are pretty awesome.  Explore… then on the side it had another sign, “Your own way” … what does that mean … go your own way … to a parking lot … go your own way to a campsite … those kind of signs crack me up … go your own way … to the trailhead where 50 others have walked that same day.  But, the Wicked Campervans are ligit.  They come up with good sayings … sometimes they aren’t ligit to post here, but sometimes they are.

Don’t know where i’m going from here, but maybe i’ll find the road less traveled by.  So, until next time. -Cheers

Thanks for the Wicked mention on your blog. Shame you couldn’t hook the trout!
